Highways Applauds Our Motion Light
July 2010
Canada Day (July 1st) and Independence Day (July 4th) in the United States have come and gone.  Friends and family gathered for BBQ's, camping and fireworks, celebrating the birthday of these two nations.  Hopefully everyone had good weather to celebrate.

The weather in the northwest USA and western Canada has been horrible this spring with more rain and clouds than sunshine.  Hopefully the sun will break through and summer can begin.  Alberta has been in a drought for seven years and in the south they have had major flooding. The Trans Canada Highway was shut down for 60 miles with the road washed out in many spots and the main line of the CPR Railway washed out as well.  A real mess that's for sure.

We're all looking forward to the Calgary Stampede which starts this Friday.  Thanks to the many of you who dropped me a line after the last newsletter in April and wished me well.  Judy has nursed me back to pretty normal health as of now.  I am back to about 85%.  As a result of not feeling that chipper I didn't get a newsletter out in May.

Safe travels;

Ken & Judy Wilton

Customer Comment - Importance of knowing how to drive the rig!
In the May Newsletter I talked about the importance of having your spouse able and comfortable with the rig, especially driving it.  When I was sick Judy had to drive from Phoenix to Canada and that was important.  Here is what one reader wrote.

I really enjoy your letters, and I just wanted to wish Ken a speedy recovery.

Also, I just wanted to mention that you need to stress to the ladies that it's really important not only to learn to drive the rig but also how to maintain it by checking oil, tires, batteries, radiator fluid, etc.  My 25 years of traveling with my husband gave me experience in hooking up, unhooking, hitching and unhitching, etc.  Although I didn't drive a lot (because it made him jump up and down in the passenger seat), he was insistent I learn how to drive.  I lost him to heart failure a few weeks after we traded for a brand-new motorhome, but I've felt comfortable driving it for the past 4 1/2 years because No. 1:  He taught me well and was insistent that I learn, and No 2:  I feel his presence with me as I travel this beautiful country.  For a long time I wished I had paid more attention to the maintenance and upkeep, but now I've got that pretty well figured out.  I STILL hate checking tires and batteries, but I do it!

Happy Summer!!

Highways Newsletter Features the Motion Light

ToiletPaper Roll

Wireless Motion-Sensor Light

Here is a quote from the July Highways
Newsletter.

RVers can finally stop fumbling for the light switch in the middle of the night. Coil N' Wrap's 10-LED motion activated light comes on when it detects motion and goes out 30 seconds after motion has ceased.  Powered by three AA batteries, the light can be placed in bathrooms, bedrooms and basement-storage areas with hook-and-loop fasteners.  The 10 LEDs shine brightly but conserve power, resulting in longer battery life.  Measures inches in width, the light has an off switch for when you want complete darkness.  Maybrook, New York, Good Sam Members James and Rosanne Kearrney tried out the lights and tell us, "To be able to see in dark places without having to find a switch is great."

The RV Motion Light is used in the RV or home and automatically provides light, where you need it, when you want it.  The motion detector turns on the light and turns it off 30 seconds later.  Great for those evening trips to the bathroom.  No fumbling for the light or waking someone up.  Also handy when the grandkids or visitors are around.  We have three in the RV, two in the bedroom and one in the bathroom area.  They are portable so you can place them anywhere, even in a cupboard or closet, any place you need light.  The unit is powered by three AA batteries and the ten LED bulbs won't run the battery down for a long time.   $19.99 each or 3 for $50.00

Does your water taste "yucky"?
ToiletPaper Roll Even if your water doesn't taste or smell "yucky" it is  not necessarily safe to drink.  You know what happens to water left in a glass for awhile? Tthe glass gets all scummy.  Imagine the inside of your water tank that hasn't been cleaned for years.  Perhaps you bought a used unit.  You don't know the history of that tank and it may not be good. You should consider testing it with our Water Test Check Kit

Here is what customer John Pauley had to say about his tank.
He purchased the Water Test Check Kit and was surprised at what he found.
Oh, just want to mention that your water test kit was a God-send for me.  It did alert me to contaminated water.  It took several days for the sample to turn to the blue-green color. Possibly, some existing water from when I purchased the camper last winter was contaminated and a thorough sanitation per your literature hopefully, will solve this problem.  Thanks again.

Just add some water to the test kit and if the water has any e-coli in it, the color will turn black right away, indicating you have a serious problem that needs to be dealt with immediately.  If, as in the case of John Pauley, the water sample takes a day or two to change color, you still have a problem, but not one that is as serious as e-coli. When you use the Water Test Check Kit and you have an e-coli problem, the water sample will turn black immediately.  This indicates a SERIOUS, POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATING PROBLEM.  In either situation follow the purification instructions on our website to clean your tank.

ToiletPaper RollOne way to get rid of unpleasant smells and taste without having to purify the tank is to use our Water Fresh holding tank product.  Just add 2 oz of Water Fresh for every twenty gallons of water tank capacity, fill with water and you're done.  Use regularly to maintain fresh tasting water.  Check the tank regularly with the Water Test Check Kit to make sure the water is not contaminated.

For those of you who have a Class A, trailer or fifth wheel  that doesn't have a gravity feed filler option, here is a way to get the Water Fresh or bleach (if necessary) into your tank.

Hose & couplers Holding Tank Filler

This four foot hose has a shutoff coupler on each end.  Just close one of them and fill the hose with Water Fresh or bleach and close the other one.  Attach to the rig and to your hose.  Open the couplers and turn on the water.  Repeat as many times as necessary.  The hose will hold 4 oz of solution.  Use this filler when it's time to winterize as well.

We have put the three products listed above into a Special Promotion at a discounted rate.
Water Fresh Combo SP3

This 3 Pack normally sells for $31.97 but is on sale for $27.99.

Customer Salutes the LightCheck & Safety Plug
John Schoengart of Bremerton WA, phoned to tell us ToiletPaper Rollhow much he loved the LightCheck.  He bought it because he saw the obvious need for RVers who own 5th wheels and trailers to be able to trouble shoot electrical problems at home or on the road.

He then decided to change all the exterior light fixtures on his 23 year old rig to new ones.  He changed one out at a time and then plugged in the LightCheck to make sure that each fixture was working.  "It just worked great", he said.  "I can't say enough about it!  Every trailer or 5th wheel owner needs one of them".

Just plug the LightCheck into the 7 pin connector and watch as all your clearance lights come on and the sigal lights and brake lights flash.  This gives you the opportunity to do a walk around and see what's working and what's not.  There is a handy Trouble Shooting Guide on the label that will help solve your problems if there are any.
