It's September - Schools In, Summers Over & Frost is on the way
Sept 2009

We had a pretty eventful July and August as you read in the last couple of months' newsletters and now it's September.  The Grandkids are back in school, the leaves are starting to turn color and soon there will be frost.  You can tell that I'm not writing from an Arizona perspective.  Here in Alberta frost can come almost any month of the year.  So far we have eluded Jack Frost but it won't be for long.  I hope we have  what they call a long "Indian Summer" this fall.  That's when the weather is lovely all fall.  Still not summer but a long way from winter.

Not sure if you read your issue of Highways Magazine this month but they featured one of our new products, the Inspection Mirror with an LED Light on page 33.  It's solar powered.  Imagine that!  No more batteries to buy.  This product has been flying off the shelf ever since the magazine hit the streets.  It rolls out across the country so you may not have received your copy yet.  Here's what they said:

RVers have lots of nooks and crannies that elude the eyes of even the most limber do-it-yourselfers.  Now you can get a glimpse at your rigs inner workings with Coil n' Wrap's 15" Inspection Mirror, which extends into engine compartments, under chassis and into other hard-to-reach places.  The flexible gooseneck allows you to position the mirror around obstructions, and the solar-powered LED light illuminates dark spaces.  Good Sam product tester Kenneth Ott of West Hazelton, PA, poked around with the Inspection Mirror and says, "I used it to repair a leak under the bathroom sink, to find an oil leak in my car's engine and to inspect the wiring on our camping trailer.  This light works great."

Check out the Inspection Mirror with LED Light as it's a real "cool little product".  Also this month, if you purchase an Inspection Mirror you also get a FREE Frustration Free RVing CD, a $12 value.

We're going to fly to Quebec to do a tour of the countryside this month.  We have already toured Montreal and Quebec City so we want to see more of the rural Quebec area.  The leaves might also be turning which will be nice to see.  If anyone has a "don't miss in Quebec", let me know.  We would appreciate any tips.  I'll let you know about the trip next month.

WINDOWS ANYONE?
Washing the windows on my Class A motorhome has always been a real pain in the you know what.  It's a job I just used to hate.  I don't love it now, but I've figured out how to make it not such a pain, and I don't use a ladder to do it.

Getting the bugs off the day they hit the rig is the best solution but sometimes circumstances don't allow for that.  Also, how many times have you cleaned that big windshield and thought it looked great and then went inside and found out you had to go back and try again.  There were streak marks and bugs that you couldn't see from the outside.

Everyone has their way of doing it and I'll tell you mine.  It might help someone out there get a little less stressed.  I have figured out how to get it done relatively quickly and painlessly.  You need the right tools and for me that includes, a long handled brush, squeegie, microfiber towel or pad and Bugs 'r Off, our highly rated Bug remover.

Bugs 'r Off can be used on not only the glass but also painted finishes, fiberglass, chrome and trim.  It will not hurt any surface that it is used on.  It actually dissolves the bugs, which is the key to getting them off easily.  It will NOT remove wax finishes.

I start on one side of the windshield and spray Bugs 'r Off on one section of the windshield.  If it's hot and I have water available, I will spray water on the windshield first to cool it off so the Bugs 'r Off doesn't dry on that hot windshield before I get to it.  If I don't have a water source available, I will do a smaller section of the windshield and work my way across it.  The sprayer has three settings, spray, stream and off.  Using the stream setting you can spray to the top of any windshield without a problem.  I start at the top and spray down so it will run down the windshield.

I then take a wet long handled brush and scrub them off.  I then rinse the brush and wet the windshield down and use the squeegie to take off the excess water.  This will usually leave a streak mark from the squeegie.  I then spray a little water on our fabulous streak free microfiber glass cloth, and wipe down any of the streak marks left by the squeegie.  This is particularly helpful on the rounded edges of the windshield which are always a pain to get at.  (There are 3 cloths in the microfiber package.  One each for cleaning, dusting and glass and mirrors.  Most people get a set for inside the rig and one for outside)

I work my way across the windshield and then turn the sprayer to spray and do the lower part of the RV under the windshield.  Sometimes, on stubborn bugs that have been left for a few days I might have to go back and spray them again to get them off.

I then do the mirrors and chrome using the microfiber cloth.  It's so much better than trying to use cotton as the microfiber cloth takes the water off with one swipe and will also shine the chrome.  I use the microfiber cloths when washing the rigs as well.  These cloths are totally unique.  You can't find them in  Walmart or Costco.  These are made of virgin polyester material by the inventors of microfiber.  It's not made of recycled plastic bottles which the cheaper cloths on the market are made of.  The cloths made of recycled plastic can end up scratching the finish.

Every now and then I get the ladder out and do a real good job on the windshield as it's sometimes almost impossible to get those bugs off the top of the windshield as you can't get enough leverage on the brush and you just can't see the little specks that might still be there.

There are many ways to clean the windshield and I don't profess to be an expert, just a long time RVer who doesn't like the job and tried to figure out an easier way to do it.  If you have ideas that can make my job easier please email me at kwilton@coilnwrap.com.  I always enjoy the feedback I get from you readers.

Next month I will review an innovative way to wash your windshield when you are stopped on the side of the road and have to wash the windshield without having a water supply available.
New Shower Head
ToiletPaper Roll Last month we told you about a new shower head for home use.  It's called "The Storm" and it's like being under a rain cloud.  It has 56 shower sprayers and it saves a lot of water useage due to it's patented Venturi construction.  It doesn't have the power of the existing shower head we use so it's a totally different feel.  If you are looking for a rain type of shower head this is a great unit for you.  It will retail for $49.99.  We are undecided at this point as to whether to add it as a product to our line.  If this is a product you would like to purchase, please email me at kwilton@coilnwrap.com.  If there is sufficient interest we will consider adding the product and I will email you to advise you that it's available.

Our daughter tried it out and says it's the best shower head they have ever had.  The head is 6" in diameter so it's rather large.  It is totally adjustable to any position you would like.  Judy and I wouldn't trade the one we have in the rig as we enjoy the pressure it provides as well as the water saving feature.   All our shower heads are guaranteed to be clog free for life.
RV Humor
A young, pregnant RVer named Sally was involved in a traffic accident, but because she was riding in a sturdy Winnebago, she survived, although she was left in a coma. When she awoke a few days later in the hospital she was no longer pregnant! She asked her doctor, "What happened?"

He replied, "Sally, you had twins -- a boy and a girl. Your brother named them for you."

"Oh, no!" shrieked Sally. "Not my brother! His elevator doesn't go to the top floor, if you know what I mean!" The doctor replied, "Well, Sally, your brother named your daughter Denise."

"Whew, that's not so bad," she replied, looking very relieved. Then, hesitantly, she asked, "What's the boy's name?"

"Denephew," he said.
Garter Belt for the Garbage Can
Wonder Wrap Garbage Can Here is a great idea that prevents the garbage bag from slipping down into the garbage can and the resultant mess that is created.  The solution is to use a length of Wonder Wrap, a hook and loop product with hook on one side and loop on the other.  When they come in contact with each other they stick together.  Notice that I have overlapped them so they don't line up perfectly.  That is so when I want to empty the garbage I can find the end of the strap easily.  No more coffee grounds all over the garbage can and no need to wash out the can every few days to clean up the mess.

This idea also works great with the collapsable garbage can that I use outside.  The bag used to slide inside that garbage can as well and create a mess.  Wonder Wrap stopped that from happening ever again.
